Quirkyalone

From Wikipedia:

"Quirkyalone is a neologism referring to someone who enjoys being single (but is not opposed to being in a relationship) and generally prefers to be alone rather than dating for the sake of being in a couple."

From Dictionary.com:

Quirk n.
A peculiarity of behavior; an idiosyncrasy: "Every man had his own quirks and twists" (Harriet Beecher Stowe).

Hmm. Therefore, wanting to be alone is a peculiar behavior? I'm broadly generalizing of course and my logic is out of sort. International Quirkyalone Day is, predictably, February 14 and was chosen to be an alternative to "the marketing barrage" of Valentine's Day.

What I don't get is this: Quirkyalone as a concept should celebrate being single for the sake of being single. Just because, right? It's oftentimes fun, anyway. The awareness of self as opposed to awareness of self as reflected by others. Why then does it exist as an alternative to a marketing campaign that celebrates relationships? (But is not really the opposite to being in a relationship?)

Why does enjoying your own company have to be so complicated that they had to make a hyphenated phrase a word to define and fight off the creeping loneliness at the end of the day?

I like watching movies alone, so I guess that makes me a quirkyalone kind of person. Why do I suddenly feel like a freak? Wikipedia sucks! Ehehe.

Same here. I prefer doing a LOT of things alone: movies, window shopping, wandering down the aisles of bookstores and DVD shops. I mean quirky's okay but not because I'm alone. Haha.

Labo nila. Pauso natin.

Whoever: How are you?

Me: Quirkyalone.

I'll really be frakking alone. Haha.

Hmm... I think wiki has someone who has had enough of explaining to people why he/she prefers to be alone and would get weird looks instead. hehe! Thus, a word was created to make someone who prefers to be alone, sound cool and hip. It's aimed to lessen the impact of those oh-so-annoying expressions of pity from smug married/in-a-relationship people.

My answer to this are two words: kids today. Hehe.

It's the Diablo Cody Generation, always trying to make things sound cool and hip . . because the old ones got to the best terms first, like cool and hip . . .which I still don't know the meanings of to this day. Hehe.

I like the way the word Quirkyalone looks, I mean physically. On a painting, on a record album cover, on a shirt.

But it would really be frightening . . .and annoying . . .if you heard someone use it in actual conversation . . .at nasa gitna sila ng isang party sa Cubao. Hehe.
