Whatever happened to The Echo? I saw the US trailer some time last year but it apparently never saw a theatrical release. Unfortunate really since this was a rare opportunity for a Filipino director to go mainstream in the US.
The Echo is a remake of Yam Laranas' own movie, Sigaw, which was a modest hit in the Philippines but was highly praised by both critics and fans of the horror genre. Iza Calzado, who played the ghost in the original version, got to reprise her role in the US remake. We finally get to see glimpses of her in this new trailer.
The Korean version reveals less of the story and, as Beyondhollywood pointed out, goes for a more mysteriously sinister atmosphere.
Still no word of a local release though.

Sayang nga Yam Laranas's film didn't quite make it to commercial theaters. I heard, though, that it got featured in foreign festivals abroad.
Buti pa sa Korea palabas na. This trailer is way better than the US version. Did you ever see Sigaw? I liked it quite a lot and this looks even better.
Haven't seen Sigaw yet. I've been hearing good things about it. Wala ako makitang DVD; I saw a VCD copy at Video City. It was quite pricey; 300 bucks. Mahal. =P
Last I heard, The Echo was in distibution limbo. The American producers don't have a clue how to market it. It's one of so many finished films in that state, sad to say. Sigaw's Yam's best film, I think - - -though that Richard Gomez-Regine velasquez fluff was quite good, too - - -and together with Erik's Pasiyam and Rico's Sa Ilalim Ng Cogon is among my personal best local post-Shake Rattle & Roll horror films I've seen.
Di ko napanood Sa Ilalim ng Cogon but I read your review. Mukhang masaya nga. Nasa DVD ba to?
I have that Regine-Richard flick on DVD. I quite liked it. Loved the shots of the Pasig River and the Post Office.
VCD lang ata.
That Richard-Regine thing was surprisingly good. Problema lang, ilang beses ko na siyang napanood, hindi ko maalala-alala yung title. Hehe.
Onga no? Basta Ogie-Regine yung theme, yun pa naalala ko. Ang generic kasi ng title, parang Mamahalin Kita, etc. Hehe.
on yamlaranas blog, he said his film will have a philippine june release =)
Thanks for the update cinelamour! Looking forward to seeing this movie.
